Research shows that more and more Dutch travellers are choosing active holidays. But what does that mean for your travel insurance?
"}},{"componentType":"paragraph","richBody":{"value":"Most sports are covered by your ING Travel Insurance, both above and below water. If something goes wrong while surfing, snorkeling or diving, or if you have an accident while mountain biking, cycling or hiking, you’re generally well insured.
Winter sports are the exception and require additional coverage. Some high-risk sports are always excluded, such as skydiving, hang gliding, bungee jumping, rock climbing and speed racing events.

A simple rule of thumb is: don’t do abroad what you wouldn’t do at home. For example, don’t rent a motorcycle in Thailand if you don’t have a licence for it. You wouldn’t do that in the Netherlands, and you won’t be insured if you do.
Likewise, riding a motorcycle in shorts and flip-flops is asking for trouble. Always follow local laws and regulations. You won’t be insured if, for example, you are speeding, too young to drive the vehicle, not wearing a helmet, or violating other traffic rules.

The consequences can be significant, both for you and your family.
Just think about the costs of emergency assistance, hospital treatment and transportation. And that’s without considering the possibility of permanent injury. It’s not something you want to think about.
So don’t take unnecessary risks. Make sure you know what you’re doing and what is covered by your insurance.
