A windmill, a canal house – even the homes in an entire residential neighbourhood can be registered as monuments. These buildings have significant (cultural) historical value. Many monuments were built a long time ago, often without proper insulation. It’s logical that, on average, monuments don’t qualify for a high energy label.
Monuments were previously exempt from the energy label requirement. From 29 May 2026, this requirement will also apply to monuments. This means that owners of protected monuments, just like owners of other buildings, will be required to provide an energy label when selling, renting out or extending a rental agreement as of 29 May 2026.
First, check EP‑Online to see whether your monument already has a valid energy label. If this is not the case, or if the label is no longer up to date, ING customers can request an energy label from Woningschouw at a discounted rate.
