In river areas and sandy soils, foundation subsidence due to drought is an emerging concern. Fortunately, there are several financing options. Think savings and/or a building deposit. You can also apply for a subsidy or special type of loan.  </p><p>Good to know: </p><ul><li><a href=\"https://www.kcaf.nl/lokale-loketten-voor-funderingsproblematiek/\">A lot of municipalities</a> have helpdesks dedicated to dealing with foundation problems. These helpdesks also provide information about subsidies, repair programmes and other types of financial support.</li><li><a href=\"https://funderingsherstelfonds.nl/overheid/deelnemende-gemeenten/\">Some municipalities</a> offer Foundation Loans (with attractive terms for lower incomes). So here are a few tips: </p><ul><li><p>Ask the seller (estate agent or owner) about the foundation’s condition before signing the purchase agreement . They’re obliged to disclose any problems. </p></li></ul><ul><li>Do  <a data-type=\"internal\" href=\"/particulier/hypotheek/woningcheck\">the &apos;Woningcheck&apos; (only available in Dutch)</a> to get an indication of the foundation damage risk.</li><li><strong>Please note</strong>: a structural survey alone isn’t enough to reveal any foundation problems. But it will highlight if there’s a need for a certified building inspector to take a closer look. If you’re not sure where to start, a structural survey usually is your best bet. Make sure to have it conducted within the 3-day cancellation period, so if the results come back negative, you’ll have enough time to renegotiate or back out of the purchase. </li><li>During a mortgage application, property appraisers are obliged to request a foundation risk report from the Dutch Housing Evaluation Institute (NWWI).
