It’s important to us that people’s homes are energy-efficient, future-proof and comfortable, and we incentivise that by offering a lower interest rate on mortgages for sustainable homes. Previously, you could get a sustainability discount if your home had energy label A or better. We have now increased the weighting of the energy label and any energy label can now have an effect on your mortgage interest rate. This can be at any time during your fixed-rate period. ING does this based on official energy label data from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO)). Your mortgage adviser will supply the energy label for your mortgage application. ING will verify the energy label with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.</p><p>If you already <strong>own a home</strong>, it may not have an energy label yet. Or your home’s energy label may be outdated or have expired, because energy labels are valid for 10 years. Energy labels are issued by energy performance advisers. You can start off, for example, by doing the ING Upgrade check. If so, ING will automatically change the interest rate for you as soon as the improved energy label has been registered with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. The new rate will then take effect from the first day of the month following the month when your new energy label appeared in the Netherlands Enterprise Agency’s system.
