We walk through the house, and I see a charred sofa. I suppose I can stand on your sofa with my shoes on for a moment to take a closer look at the ceiling, right? I say ironically to the man. Given the extent of the damage (a few hundred thousand), I immediately call in both a structural and a contents expert. The repair of the home will take four months. The man can stay with his sister for a few days but asks if he can stay in a hotel this coming weekend because his girlfriend is coming over from Limburg. He receives an advance payment from me immediately for this, as well as for the costs of the replacement rental apartment that he is currently arranging himself. The client wants everything resolved and repaired as quickly as possible, but with this extensive damage, that requires a bit more time.
