And that is true. No one has a crystal ball, and there is no horn that sounds when the lowest price has been reached. In general, we see that people want to enter the market when prices are rising and exit when prices are falling. That is exactly what you should not do. Our tip is to invest for the long term and spread your entry points. Over the long term, investing gives you a better chance of a higher return than saving. So start today, invest automatically and for the long term. That way, your money gets the chance to grow and you can make those great plans for later possible.

Why invest with ING?
We understand better than anyone that investing can feel a little exciting. That is why we recommend that you consider whether investing is right for you. We make investing accessible and easy to understand. Whether you choose a ready-made investment solution or want to trade on the stock exchange yourself. We keep costs low and you can start with small amounts.

What does investment return mean?
Your investment return is the profit or loss on your investments. Return is often expressed as a percentage. It is what your investments are worth minus the value of your investments when you bought them. You can also calculate investment return over a specific period, for example a year. In that case, you look at the end value of your investments in that year minus the value at the beginning of that year.

What is an average investment return?
You calculate average return by converting the return over a longer period into shorter periods. For example, you divide the return over 5 years by 5 to calculate the average annual return. Suppose you invested €1,000 and after 5 years your investments are worth €1,200. Then your average return is 200/1000 x 100% = 20%, divided by 5 years, which gives an average return of 4% per year. This is still a gross return, because costs have not yet been taken into account. Investing also costs money, and when you include those costs, you arrive at your net return.

Is Easy Invest right for me?
You choose one of the four ING Global Index Portfolio funds you want to invest in. We do not provide investment advice. That is why it is smart to know the basics of investing, so you can open an Easy Invest account with confidence.

Which fund suits me if I choose Easy Invest?
That depends on your situation, your goals and how much risk you want to take. To help you choose, we have developed four example journeys. These show how people with different goals, time horizons and risk attitudes look at investing. View the profiles and discover which fund suits you best: Your way of investing.

Can I also open an Easy Invest account for my child?
Yes, absolutely. If you want to open the investment account in your child’s name, you first need to open a child or youth account for your child. Then, as a parent/guardian, you can open the investment account from your own Mobile Banking app or My ING. At the ‘Select current account’ step, select the account in your child’s name. Managing the account, meaning depositing and withdrawing, can only be done by the parent/guardian until your child turns 18. Your minor child can see the investment account in the ING Banking App. When your child turns 18, your child automatically gets control of the investments. As a parent/guardian, you will then no longer have access or insight. Would you prefer to open the investment account in your own name? Then simply open an extra investment account linked to your own account. For easy recognition, you can for example change the name of the investment account to your child’s name.

What does ING invest in for me with Easy Invest?
With ING Easy Invest, you choose 1 of the 4 well-diversified ING Global Index Portfolio funds. Curious what makes these sustainable? What index funds actually are? And what the differences between the funds are? Read more about the ING Global Index Portfolio funds: What you invest in - ING

How do I change the fund I invest in with Easy Invest?
You can change the fund you invest in via your Easy Invest dashboard in your app or in My ING. Go to your investment account and under “Settings” you will find the “Change fund” option. Changing a fund does not involve any buying or selling charges and takes about 6 business days. Once the fund change has been completed successfully, you will see this as a withdrawal from your old fund and a deposit into your new fund in the order overview and in the debits and credits of your Easy Invest account. Please note: if there is an outstanding buy or sell order, you cannot change your fund at that moment. This becomes possible again once the entire order has been executed.

How does self-directed investing via Self Invest work?
If you choose Self Invest, you make all investment decisions yourself. You open a Self Invest investment account and decide for yourself what you want to invest in. You can invest in shares, funds, ETFs (also called trackers) and much more. Of course, it is important that you understand the different investment options before you start investing in them.

Why should I choose Self Invest from ING?

Because of our global and broad range of ETFs (trackers), shares, bonds and other investment instruments

Choose from a very wide range of funds and ETFs

Is self-directed investing with Self Invest difficult?
You can make investing as simple or as difficult as you like. It is important to understand that investing involves risks. And what you can do to limit those risks. There are investment instruments with more and less risk. Read the information about the different investment instruments and the information from our Investment Office. Then you can decide whether self-directed investing is right for you and what you would like to invest in. Or whether you would rather choose a ready-made solution such as Easy Invest.

What is Portfolio Management at ING?
At ING Portfolio Management, we offer managed investing in five investment strategies, each with its own character, risk and costs, put together by the experts of the ING Investment Office. These experts take the management of your investments off your hands so that you have as little to worry about as possible. In consultation with your advisor, you can always adjust your chosen strategy and risk profile.

Which risk profile suits me within Portfolio Management?
In addition to the different investment strategies, ING Portfolio Management also offers different risk profiles within each strategy. Together with an Asset Advisor, you discuss your risk preferences and determine a risk profile. The different risk profiles are made up of different types of investments, with two main categories being distinguished: shares and bonds. These investments are used in different proportions for each risk profile.

Is the SDG Impact strategy within Portfolio Management right for you?
The SDG Impact strategy is available within Portfolio Management from €50,000 in invested assets. Together with an advisor, you draw up a personal investment plan. Based on your investment profile and sustainability preferences, we advise you on an investment strategy that suits you best.

What can an Asset Advisor do for me?
ING’s Asset Advisor guides you through the world of investing. In a personal conversation, the advisor explains ING’s different investment strategies and risk profiles, and together you look at your wishes and starting points when it comes to investing. Based on this, a personal investment plan is drawn up.

I was called by ING to talk about investing. Is that correct?
That is possible. ING calls customers for advisory conversations about assets. We invite you for a video call or a conversation at one of our offices with an ING advisor.

What should you pay attention to:

Hang up and call back yourself: If in doubt, hang up. Look up ING’s official number and call back yourself.

No rush: Fraudsters put pressure on you to make quick decisions or transfer money.

No login codes/PINs: A real bank employee will never ask for login codes, passwords or PINs.

Check it in the app: ING has a feature called “Check the Call” in the mobile app. This lets you see immediately whether you are really speaking to ING.

If you already invest with ING, for example with Portfolio Management, we will call you periodically to check whether your investments still match your starting points. To discuss this, we invite you to a review meeting. For this you will either receive a personal message or be called by an ING colleague.

I do not want to be approached by ING about investing or receive marketing about investing with ING
You can adjust your communication preferences yourself so that you no longer receive personal offers from ING. In the ING App, go to “Service” and “Your details”, then click “Communication settings”. In My ING, you can find these preferences by clicking your name in the top right corner, then “Settings” and under “Communication & privacy” click “News settings”.

If you already invest with ING, for example with Portfolio Management, we will still call you periodically to see whether your investments still match your starting points. This is regardless of your communication preferences.

How does a video call with an Asset Advisor work?
For many customers, a quick video call is an easy way to ask an advisor their questions. At ING, we call this a video call, but how exactly does it work?

You choose a date and time that suits you best

You receive a confirmation by email with a secure link and a personal code

At the time of the appointment, go to the secure link and enter your personal code

The video call starts with one of our advisors

What does the ING Global Index Portfolio Active fund involve?
This fund consists of 70% shares and 30% bonds. With a higher percentage of shares, the focus is on growth, but that also means the value of your investments can fluctuate more strongly.

What does the ING Global Index Portfolio Balanced fund involve?
This fund consists of 50% shares and 50% bonds. This way you benefit from the growth opportunities of shares, while the bonds provide a more stable base. If shares fall, bonds can cushion the blow, and vice versa.

What does the ING Global Index Portfolio Conservative fund involve?
This fund consists of 30% shares and 70% bonds. This means your investments are less sensitive to major price fluctuations, while you still have the opportunity for growth.

What does the ING Global Index Portfolio Dynamic fund involve?
This fund consists of 90% shares and 10% bonds. As a result, the fund focuses on maximum growth, but it also involves a lot of risk.

How sustainable are the ING Global Index Portfolio funds?
We select financially attractive equity and bond trackers with specific attention to people, the environment and society. We do not invest in companies with harmful products such as tobacco, coal or alcohol, or companies involved in corruption or environmental pollution.

What is the difference between shares and bonds?
Shares give you a small ownership stake in a company. Bonds are loans to companies or governments on which you receive interest. Shares are more sensitive to market fluctuations, while bonds provide a more stable foundation.

What do you get when you own shares?
With shares, you buy a stake in a company. This allows you to benefit if the company is doing well and the share price rises. You also often receive dividend, a share of the profit.

Which shares should I buy?
We do not advise you on which share you should buy. In any case, choose consciously the companies whose shares you want to buy. Research the company and the market in which it operates beforehand.

How can I invest in options at ING?
You can only trade options if you have a Self Invest investment account with ING and ING has determined that you have sufficient knowledge and experience with options.

How can you apply for an Options Agreement?
Complete the PDF and sign it. You can then send it digitally to beleggen.overeenkomsten@ing.com, or by post to: ING Antwoordnummer 361 1100 VC Amsterdam. An ETF or tracker aims to offer investors the same return as the underlying market, minus the costs of the ETF.

Which ETF is best to buy?
Which ETF you buy as a beginner investor depends on your investment strategy and approach. It is important that you know which index the ETF follows.

What are the best ETFs to invest in?
There is no such thing as “the best” ETF to invest in. As with other investments, you need to decide for yourself which ETF suits your approach.

What is a guaranteed product?
A guaranteed product is an investment product in which the issuer of the product, in this case ING, guarantees your initial deposit for a certain period.

What is an investment account?
An investment account, also known as an investor account, is an account into which you deposit money to invest and on which all your investments are administered.

Can you withdraw money from an investment account?
You can stop investing. You then sell your investments and receive the amount your investments are worth at that moment. This can take a few business days.

How can I transfer money to my Self Invest account?
The amount you want to invest must be in the cash part of your investment account. Via the ING app or My ING, you can transfer money from your current account to the cash part of your investment account.

What can I expect if I transfer my investments to another bank?
You will receive a statement from us, you pay a fee of €90 per fund line, the processing time depends on the other bank, you can only transfer whole positions, and it is not possible to transfer products such as Sprinters and Turbos.

More information: Transfer investments to another bank - ING.

How much tax do you pay on an investment account in the Netherlands?
The Dutch Tax Authorities regard your investments, just like your savings, as part of your assets. If all your savings and investments combined exceed a certain threshold (in 2024 this is €57,000), you pay box 3 tax on the assets above that threshold. This is called capital gains tax.

Is the rebuttal Scheme (report of actual return) relevant to me?
Not everyone qualifies for this scheme. That depends on your personal situation and can differ per year. Check https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/en/income-in-box-3/income-in-box-3 to see whether you qualify.

Why do I receive an ‘Overview for reporting return’ from ING?
Not all the information needed about your investments is included in the annual overview. That is why we have made an Overview for declaration of actual return available for all investment accounts that were active in the period 2017-2025.

Why is diversification important when investing?
Diversifying your investment means diversifying your risk. So you do not put all your money into one company, because if that company collapses, you will probably lose your invested money.

Can my risk profile change with Easy Invest or Portfolio Management?
What suits you now may not suit you in a few years. Many people choose to take less risk as they get closer to their goal.

What amount can I start investing with?
You can start investing with small amounts. With Easy Invest, you can start from €10. With Self Invest, we recommend working towards at least €2,000 because of the fixed costs. For Portfolio Management, the threshold is €50,000.

More information: Open an investment account: invest your way – ING

What does an investment account cost?
The 4 different investment accounts (Easy Invest, Self Invest, Portfolio Management, Pension Investing) have different pricing structures. You can find these on our rates page or in the order overview.

What impact do costs have on investment return?
There are always costs involved in investing, and they can differ per type of investment. If you buy a share, you become the owner of a very small part of that company. You can earn a return through a price increase and/or by receiving dividend (part of the profit).

What is a bond?
When you buy a bond, you lend money to a government or a company. In return, you usually receive periodic interest, also called coupon interest. It is an easy way to invest in a diversified way across all the companies in an index.

What is an investment fund?
An investment fund is a collection of investments jointly owned by many investors. The money is spread by fund managers across different types of investments, such as shares or bonds in different sectors and regions. This is a practical way to spread risk.

What are options and how can I invest in them at ING?
An option is a derivative product that gives the right (but not the obligation) to buy (call option) or sell (put option) an underlying asset (such as 100 shares) within a certain period at a pre-agreed price. To trade options at ING, you need a Self Invest account, must pass the knowledge and experience test for options in My ING, and need to apply for an options agreement.

What is dividend and when is it paid out?
Dividend is a profit distribution from a company to its shareholders. The frequency and payout date are determined by the company itself.

What is a Corporate Action (CA) at ING?
A Corporate Action is an administrative change relating to a share, bond or investment fund. Examples are a rights issue (issue of additional shares), a stock split, or an offer for shares in the event of a takeover.

Can I change my investment solution at ING, for example from Easy Invest to Self Invest?
It is not possible to transfer investments directly from, to or between Easy Invest accounts. If you want to switch from Easy Invest to Self Invest, you need to sell your positions in Easy Invest, withdraw the money and then open a Self Invest account to invest again there.

How do I place an order with Self Invest at ING?
To place an order, go to your Self Invest account in the ING App or My ING. Via the Explore button, search for the investment instrument you want to buy or sell. Choose the order type (such as a limit order or market order), enter the quantity or amount, and confirm your order. For each order, you immediately see any transaction costs.

Where can I find what in the ING Banking App for Self Invest?
In the ING Banking App, you will find your Self Invest account under ‘Investment account’. You can complete your details via:

My ING: Go to your investment account, where you will be asked immediately to register the details.

By phone: Call customer service.

ING office: Make an appointment at an office.

What is a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and why do I need it for business investing at ING?
A Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is a unique code for legal entities. Since 3 January 2018, banks have been obliged to report the LEI of every investment transaction by a legal entity (such as a BV, foundation or sole proprietorship) to the regulator (AFM). Without an LEI, you cannot invest for business purposes. You can apply for an LEI via the Chamber of Commerce (KvK).

What is the rebuttal scheme of the Dutch Tax Authorities and where can I find the ‘Overview for reporting actual return’ at ING?
According to rulings by the Dutch Supreme Court, the Dutch Tax Authorities must tax the actual return achieved if this is lower than the notional return in box 3. With the Rebuttal scheme, you can report this. ING makes the ‘Overview for declaration of actual return’ available from 2017 onwards. You can find this overview per year and per investment account in My ING and the ING App under ‘Documents’ in the ‘Investment’ category. This overview supplements the information on your regular Annual Overview.

In the ING app, first click the bell in the top right corner. Any choice or stock dividends received are not included in the gross dividend on shares in the Overview for declaration of actual return. The Overview for declaration of actual return is leading when completing the Dutch Tax Authorities’ declaration of actual return form.

Rente op obligaties
The total amount of coupon (interest) payments in euros on bonds, before deduction of any withholding tax and costs, during the year for this specific investment account.

Please note: this excludes any interest paid on the cash part of the investment account. You must state the cash part separately on the declaration of actual return form.

What is dividend on investments and which types of dividend distributions are there?
Dividend is part of a company’s profit that is periodically distributed to its shareholders. There are different types of dividend distributions. The most common is cash dividend, in which you receive an amount of money per share. There is also stock dividend, in which you receive extra shares instead of cash. Sometimes there is also optional dividend, where you can choose between cash or stock dividend yourself. The choice between cash or stock dividend can have tax implications; consult a tax advisor for this.

How do I know when a share goes ex-dividend at ING?
The ex-dividend date is the day from which a share is traded without the right to the most recent dividend distribution. If you buy shares on or after the ex-dividend date, you are no longer entitled to the upcoming dividend. The ex-dividend dates are determined by the issuing company and can often be found on its website, financial news websites and in annual reports. ING does not show this date directly in the systems, but processes the distribution based on information from the central parties.

Do I have to pay tax on dividend received at ING?
Yes, in the Netherlands dividend is in principle taxed by dividend withholding tax. Companies established in the Netherlands generally withhold 15% dividend tax from the dividend paid out. You can usually offset this withheld dividend tax against income tax. Different rules may apply to dividend from foreign shares, depending on tax treaties. For specific tax questions, always consult a tax advisor or the Dutch Tax Authorities.

How long does it take before a dividend distribution is visible in my ING investment account?
After the dividend has been paid out by the company and processed by the central parties, it usually takes several business days (usually 2 to 5 business days) before the dividend distribution is visible in your ING investment account. This depends on the processing time at the various parties involved. You can find the credit entry in the transaction overview of your investment account in My ING or the app.

Can I change settings for the way my dividend is received at ING (for example reinvestment)?
You can change the settings via My ING. You can find this in your investment environment via the Manage button. Where possible, a change in settings is applied to all future dividend distributions. A change after the ex-dividend date no longer has any effect for that specific distribution. The company paying the dividend determines which options there are for distribution. Sometimes you can choose optional dividend (cash or shares) or reinvest via DRIP (dividend re-investment program). For details of the dividend distribution, visit the website of the paying company or fund manager.

How does the payout work and what are the conditions of a promotion or welcome bonus when opening an ING investment account?
View the current promotions and accompanying promotional terms and conditions for ING investment products here: Investing: promotions & promotional terms and conditions.

Can the investment account be linked to another current account?
An ING employee can change the linked current account if the name on the account is the same. The condition is that both accounts are held with ING and that the current accounts are in the same name or names. If you want to change this, ask for an employee. If both accounts are not in the same name, the changes must be made using the form on the following page. https://www.ing.nl/en/personal/investing/investments-at-ing/transfer-investments-within-ing

My partner does not have their own My ING codes. Can I still open an investment account and link it to a joint current account?
At the moment, this is not possible. For a joint investment account, both account holders need their own My ING login details. This is important in order to approve the application properly and to manage the account together later.

Tip: your partner can easily apply for their own My ING codes. Follow the steps on the next page: https://www.ing.nl/particulier/digitaal-bankieren/aanvragen. Once both of you have access, you can link the investment account to your joint current account.

Can I open an investment account as an authorized representative?
An investment account can only be opened by an account holder using their own ING app or their own My ING codes. As an authorized representative, you cannot open or close an investment account.

How can I change or stop a recurring deposit?
Yes, you can change or stop a recurring deposit. With Easy Invest, Portfolio Management or Pension Investing, you can change or stop your recurring deposit via the “Monthly deposit” tile on your investment account. If you have a recurring deposit on your Self Invest investment account, you can stop the recurring deposit via the tab in “My orders”. To change it, first cancel your instruction and then schedule a new recurring instruction for the amended amount.

Can an authorized representative also view the investment account?
If an investment account is linked to your ING current account on which an authorized representative is registered, the authorized representative can also view your investment account via their own ING app and My ING environment. The authorized representative can also carry out transactions. An authorized representative cannot open or close an investment account.

I have an appointment with an advisor. How can I move or change it?
Do you have an appointment scheduled with an advisor and can no longer make it? If you would like to move or change the appointment, check the confirmation email you received after making the appointment; it also gives you the option to move or change the appointment.

What are the steps for placing orders for Self Invest at ING?
To place orders for Self Invest at ING, follow the steps below:

Log in to My ING or the ING App.

Go to the ‘Investing’ section.

Search for the investment instrument (share, fund, ETF, option) that you want to buy or sell via the Explore button.

Select ‘Buy’ or ‘Sell’.

Enter the number of units or the amount you want to invest.

Choose the desired order type (for example ‘limit order’ or ‘market order’) and fill in the required details, such as the limit price for a limit order.

Check the order details carefully, including the estimated costs.

Send the order. The order is then processed on the exchange. You can track the status of the orders in the order overview.

How do I place a limit order for shares via the ING App?
A limit order is a buy or sell order that is executed at a preset price or better, if there is a seller or buyer willing to accept the transaction. This is how you place a limit order in the ING App:

Search for the share you want to trade via the Explore button.

Select ‘Buy’ or ‘Sell’.

Choose ‘Limit order’ as the order type.

Enter the desired ‘limit price’. A limit order is only executed if the market price reaches or exceeds the set limit (for selling) / falls below or reaches it (for buying).

What is a market order and when do I use it when investing via ING?
A market order is a buy or sell order that is executed as quickly as possible at the best available price on the market. The advantage is that the order is executed almost immediately, but the disadvantage is that you do not know exactly in advance at what price the order will be executed, especially in volatile markets. You use a market order when speed of execution is more important than the exact price. A market order offers no guarantee of a specific price; the price may differ from the last displayed quote.

Can I place an order outside trading hours at ING?
Yes, you can also place orders with ING outside regular trading hours. These orders are then recorded in the system and queued for execution when the relevant exchange opens again. Please note: execution of orders outside trading hours can affect the final transaction price due to price movements during the closing period.

Where can I find price information on my investments at ING and is it current?
Price information on your investments is available in My ING and in the ING Investing App. The displayed price information may be delayed, often by 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the exchange and the type of product. This is standard practice in the financial world for non-professional investors. For the most current and real-time price information, you can consult specialised financial news websites or the websites of the relevant exchanges, such as Euronext for European shares. Please note that making decisions based on delayed price information involves risks.

Why is the price information in My ING delayed?
The delay in price information is common practice and results from licence agreements with exchanges and data providers. Real-time price data is expensive and is usually only made available to professional parties or via paid subscriptions. For private investors, delayed price information is the standard display. This delay does not affect the execution of your orders; these are always executed at the market price applicable at that time (for market orders) or the set limit (for limit orders).

Which price information is the most reliable for my investments via ING?
The price information you see in My ING and the ING Investing App comes from recognized data providers. However, as mentioned earlier, this is often delayed (15-20 minutes) in line with agreements with the exchanges. For real-time decisions, we advise you to use reliable external financial sources that offer real-time prices, such as Bloomberg, Reuters or specialized broker websites. Please note that the prices displayed may differ slightly per platform.

What are Corporate Actions (CAs) and how am I informed about a share or fund conversion at ING?
Corporate Actions (CAs) are events that affect your investments, such as dividend payments, splits, mergers, takeovers, and conversions of shares, bonds and for example funds or ETFs. If a Corporate Action takes place in which you have a choice, you are informed about it. We inform you through a message in your personal message inbox in the ING App or in My ING. For specific details about a Corporate Action, such as the reason for a conversion or the impact on your position, we recommend consulting the official documentation of the relevant company or fund manager. In this context, ING acts as the executing party for the instructions of the issuing institution.

What is the difference between a conversion and a split as a Corporate Action?
A conversion or merger means that an existing investment fund or share is merged with another fund or share, or that the investment strategy and structure of a fund changes significantly. This can lead to a change in the ISIN code and sometimes a different investment policy.

A split (or reverse split) relates to the number of units. In a split, the number of units increases and the value per unit is proportionally reduced, so that the total value of your investment remains the same. In a reverse split the opposite happens. ING informs you where possible about the specific impact of such Corporate Actions on your investments.

How am I informed about a Corporate Action that affects my investments at ING?
As soon as ING is informed about a relevant Corporate Action in which you have a choice, we will inform you. This usually happens through a message in your personal message inbox in the ING App or in My ING. This message contains the details of the Corporate Action, the choices you may have, and the deadlines within which you need to take action.

"},"title":"General"},{"richBody":{"value":"
What is Round Up & Invest at ING and how does it work?
With Round Up & Invest, you invest while you pay.
