With the IBAN Name Check, we make online payments easier and even safer, and we help prevent fraud and mistakes. The IBAN Name Check verifies whether the entered name linked to the IBAN differs from the name known to the bank. You will receive a notification if something does not match.

The IBAN Name Check has been in place since the introduction of the Instant Payments Regulation and applies to euro account numbers within the SEPA area. It is automatically performed on payments you make in My ING and the ING app. You do not need to sign up for the IBAN Name Check, and it is not a separate app or program.

When customers want to make a payment to your business and enter your company name and IBAN, the check takes place. The entered name is checked against the details known to the bank, as well as against the trade names you have registered with the Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel). If the name matches, no notification appears and the customer can complete the payment as usual. If the name differs, we show the company name as known to the bank. The customer can then choose to continue with the payment or cancel it. A notification may cause uncertainty for your customers about whether they are paying the correct company. To avoid unnecessary questions, it is helpful if the name on your invoices matches the account holder name registered with the bank.

The IBAN Name Check works for online payments made via the app or internet banking. It does not apply to direct debit payments and only works for euro payment and savings accounts within the SEPA area.

It may happen that your company name is not checked correctly. This can occur, for example, if your IBAN is new and has not yet been used by customers. It can also happen if the name shown on your invoice differs from the details registered with the bank.

In that case, your customers will see a notification showing the name under which you are known to the bank. This may lead to additional questions and delays. You can prevent this by adjusting your invoice and including the company name that is registered with the bank.

Yes, they can. The customer can ignore the notification and complete the payment as usual.

You decide whether to complete or cancel the payment after receiving a notification. We do recommend checking the details carefully if you see an error message. You may have made a mistake, the details in your address book may be outdated, or there could be fraud—for example, you may have received a fake invoice. If you receive a notification, verify the IBAN in another way. For instance, contact the person or company you want to transfer money to. You remain responsible for the payments you make.

Yes, the IBAN Name Check can be performed for a bulk payment.

When uploading the file, you can choose to run the IBAN Name Check. All transactions in the bulk payment will then be checked. It may take some time for the results to become visible. If the IBAN Name Check is selected, the results will also be visible in the submission list.

There are no charges for using the IBAN Name Check.
