1. Stop the vehicle safely
If your vehicle suddenly breaks down when you’re on the motorway or another busy road, it’s important to stop the vehicle safely first. Carefully move onto the hard shoulder or side of the road. Show others clearly what you’re planning to do.
2. Make yourself visible
Make sure that you, your passengers and your car are clearly visible after stopping. Turn on the emergency lights, put on a hi-vis vest and tell your passengers to do the same. Carefully place a warning triangle 30 metres behind your vehicle.
3. Do not stay in the car
Always make sure that you and your passengers get out. Move behind a crash barrier or a bit further away on the side of the road. That’s the safest location.
4. Call breakdown assistance
Do this in a safe location. Make sure you always have the number with you.
You can choose Breakdown assistance as additional coverage for your Company car insurance of ING or Company van insurance of ING. So you cannot take out Breakdown assistance separately. If you already have company car or van insurance through ING, but no Breakdown assistance yet, you can easily change this in your app or My ING Business.
