That means you should be extra alert to fraud and scams. It is important to know that with leaked personal data alone, a criminal cannot log in to your online banking at ING.</p><p>Logging in and making payments at ING is always protected by multiple security steps. This is called multi‑factor authentication.</p><p>For example, you use:</p><ul><li>your own smartphone with the ING App</li><li>and your mobile PIN, fingerprint or Face ID</li></ul><p>Without this combination, no one can access your My ING. Banks are legally required to use this level of security under PSD2 and are strictly supervised. This is how we keep online banking safe.</p>"}},{"componentType":"paragraph","title":"How scammers can misuse your data","richBody":{"value":"<p>Scammers can use leaked data to approach you personally and put you under pressure, mislead you or pretend to be you:</p><ul><li><strong>Impersonating bank employee scam and bank-at-home scams</strong><br />A scammer calls you and pretends to be a bank employee. They say your money is at risk and ask you to transfer it yourself to a ‘safe’ account. Sometimes they send someone to your home to collect your debit cards, phone, laptop or other valuables. <a data-type=\"internal\" href=\"/en/bank/safe-banking/types-of-fraud-and-scam/impersonating-bank-employee-scam\">Here, you can read more</a> about how to recognise and prevent these scams.<br /> </li><li><strong>Friend-in-need scams via social media</strong><br />You may receive a message from someone pretending to be a friend or family member, often via WhatsApp or Facebook. They ask you to advance money. Scammers use personal information to appear trustworthy. <a data-type=\"internal\" href=\"/en/bank/safe-banking/types-of-fraud-and-scam/friend-in-need-scam-via-social-media\">Click here</a> for more information about this type of scam. <br /> </li><li><strong>Phishing</strong><br />A fraudster may contact you via email, letter or text message. The sender pretends to be your bank or another trusted organisation and tries to lure you to a fake login page. If you enter your details there, they can try to gain access to your account. This is called identity fraud. Use <a data-type=\"internal\" href=\"/en/bank/safe-banking/getting-started-with-safe-online-banking/check-the-call\">Check the Call</a> on the login screen of the app or My ING to check whether you are really speaking to ING. Good to know: bank employees never ask you to transfer money, hand over your debit card or share your codes.</li><li>Do you receive a request via WhatsApp or social media from someone you know asking for money? Call that person on their old, familiar phone number or wait until you speak to them in person.</li><li>Remember: links are tricky. Do not click on links in emails or text messages without thinking, even if they mention your name or other personal details.</li><li>Have you received phishing in the name of ING?
